There were 388,000 additional job openings in the UK from August to October 2021 than in the months leading up to the global pandemic. The health industry had the most UK jobs available, 183,000, between July and September. The health sector is challenged with a workforce crisis.
The industry is having a hard time finding and retaining workers, with more open jobs in the UK now than at the beginning of the pandemic.
Extra funding and recruitment will help boost the workforce, according to the UK government. The hospitality industry had over 150,000 jobs open. Security, chefs, and front of house staff are most in demand according to UK Hospitality. The UK job security fears from Brexit and Covid are leading some companies and businesses to scale back in operations. Restaurants are reducing hours and some hotels are closing off areas of the buildings.
The retail sector is short 91,000 workers across the industry. Warehouse and logistics and supply chains, like distribution center operators, as well as butchers, and flower pickers are needed. There is a shortage in the UK of lorry drivers, with over 53,000 openings in the transport sector.
